ABOUT THE EVENT

We’re thrilled to bring back our MUJI Community Market, at MUJI Robson Street this July and August!

On July 24th and 25th, we are inviting Melody of Mala the Brand to share her soy candles, and Maggie of Atelier Eli to showcase her handmade leather goods.

The MUJI Community Market is a global initiative aimed at bringing communities together. Through this market, we hope to celebrate and shine a spotlight on local businesses and makers, as well as provide an opportunity for our community to discover and learn more about their small businesses and vendors.

We want to invite everyone to the MUJI Community Market to support our local businesses in Vancouver, BC. Be sure to come by and say hi!

THIS WEEKEND’S VENDORS

Mala The Brand

Mala The Brand

My name is Melody and I am the founder behind Mala the Brand, a soy candle company whose mission is to create the best smelling eco-friendly and clean burning candles, without compromising on quality or the environment. Since I can remember, I’ve always had an obsession with candles. It was most likely because of my aunt (who lived in the basement of our home growing up) who was burning candles everyday. As I grew older, candles became a part of my everyday self care routine that I took to when I had difficult days or when I became anxious over school, work, or just life in general.

What inspired the creation of Mala however, started back in 2016 with a local candle maker that I met in Milos, Greece when I was studying abroad, and it was there I learned and fell in love with the process of candle making. In the weeks that followed, I uncovered many ugly truths about the candle industry: Many mass-produced candles today are actually made from paraffin wax (carcinogenic), lead dipped wicks, and phthalate filled fragrances. Instead, we use the safe ingredients of biodegradable soy wax, lead free wood wicks, and toxic free fragrances, as well as minimal, earth friendly packaging.

Growing up in beautiful British Columbia, I developed a deep love and appreciation for nature as I spent my weekends hiking and camping with friends and family, so it’s always been important to me to create a company that gives back to the environment, which is why we’ve partnered with a company to plant a tree with every purchase!

Atelier Eli

Atelier Eli

Atelier Eli is a Vancouver based brand that specializes in handmade leather goods. Every piece is handcrafted by the owner and designer Maggie Li at her home studio in Burnaby. The journey of this little brand started from her living room during the winter of 2015, shortly after her son was born. Driven by her passion for arts and craft, Maggie created her company to produce unique handmade items that are both timeless and hardwearing. Highlighting special pieces from hand dyed and sought-after fabric to high quality leather items, she strives to bring slow fashion and intentional craftsmanship to her customers. Atelier Eli products are made in small batches and most of them are made to order. When you choose something from Atelier Eli, you are choosing a lovingly handmade product that is locally sourced and ethically produced.
