To MUJI, cotton is one of the most valuable natural materials.

As the cultivation of cotton requires great amounts of effort and time, many pesticides and chemical fertilizers have been used in the past. We want to practice our craftsmanship while being taking into account the effect on the people cultivating cotton and the burden on the environment.

Thus, for more than 20 years, MUJI has been continuously working to increase the percentage of organic cotton cultivated in soil that has not been treated with pesticides or chemical fertilizers for at least three years and is gentle on both the people who make it and the environment. Painstakingly handpicked by people, damage to the fibers is minimized to maintain its natural softness.
