VANCOUVER, BC, June 12, 2020 — Japanese lifestyle brand MUJI has opened its newest Canadian store at Surrey’s Guildford Town Centre. The new location is MUJI’s fourth in the Metro Vancouver area, and its second-largest store in Canada, spanning a total of 15,800 square feet over two levels of the indoor mall. MUJI Guildford Town Centre features the open, airy, and spacious layout MUJI is known for, featuring rustic, natural materials such as wood and metal, and a large, welcoming entrance within the mall. The new Surrey location will carry MUJI Canada’s full range of merchandise with over 4,000 items–including stationery, household goods, storage solutions, apparel, and food.

Mindful of opening a new location during the COVID-19 pandemic, MUJI reconfigured the store through clever spatial design that ensures safe distancing between customers and employees. Following retail guidelines provided by provincial and federal governments, MUJI has implemented safety provisions including regular cleaning, encouraging customers to wear face masks, and providing hand sanitizer, as well as having a greeter managing the front door and capacity. MUJI Guildford Town Centre’s expansive retail space also allows safe distancing between customers and employees, allowing customers to have the MUJI experience they know and love in a new way.

To celebrate the grand opening safely, MUJI will offer gift bags to the first 1,000 customers to register for the MUJI Canada email list. Starting on Friday, June 12, customers can redeem their bags at MUJI Guildford Town Centre at any time during store hours, reducing crowds during opening week. These exclusive gift bags are filled with coveted MUJI must-haves including notepads and pens.

Timed to the opening, MUJI will also offer digital workshops with local influencers that showcase MUJI’s most popular products, including a coffee brewing workshop with Moving Coffee Roastery. To sign up for upcoming workshops, visit www.muji.com/ca/events/.

“We are very excited to open our fourth MUJI store in British Columbia and to make the MUJI experience available to shoppers outside of downtown Vancouver,” says Satoshi Okazaki, president of MUJI Canada. “We know that personal connection and in-person activities are more valuable than ever during this time, and by prioritizing safety precautions in our new store, we will be able to connect Canadians to the MUJI experience and share our unique philosophy.”
