[Ended]Learn About Seasonal, Local Foods with UBC Farm

June 29, 2019

How does eating locally grown and seasonal food benefit the health of people and the environment?

We care about our community and the local environment as much as you do. Today food systems are very different, with food traveling enormous distances from regions in various seasons globally. We partnered with UBC Farm to help you and your family learn about what it means for food to be in-season and local, to figure out the local food radius, to understand the idea of a foodshed, and to learn about the meaning of a CSA or community supported agriculture.

Participants will engage with the workshop presenters in activities to discover their local, seasonal food radius using a map, and work on a resource book to navigate community sources of local foods. Tasting samples of local, seasonal foods from UBC farm will be provided, with discussion surrounding how to define non-local and out of season foods.
