Sky Garden

[Ended]A Seed Saving Talk with UofT Sky Garden

November 2, 2019

With autumn here and garden season coming to a close, we will discuss the topic of saving seeds for next season. Methods of removing, cleaning, and storing seeds will be covered for typical garden vegetables, herbs, and greens. We will also talk about the difference between heirloom and hybrid varieties and what this means for seed saving, and methods for maintaining varieties and preventing accidental out-crossing through the growing season. There will also be a seed giveaway, including tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, squash, melons, and herbs!

[Guest Presenter]

The Sky Garden is a volunteer-run rooftop vegetable garden at the University of Toronto. The garden features a lightweight model and serves as a teaching space for urban agriculture workshops. Run by volunteers with the aim of increasing local, organic food availability for the student community, the Sky Garden uses a network of lightweight, semi-hydroponic containers and a drip irrigation system to grow around 500lbs of vegetables each season.
