Sleepless Kao, is an artist-in-motion who graduated from art school (Setsu Mode Seminar) in Tokyo, specializing in fashion illustration. Since then, she has travelled to live and work in San Francisco, Hong Kong, and now, Vancouver. She creates her own world of eccentric creatures and personalities: a vast space dotted with tiny, intimate kinships and spirits bumping into one another, which together, tell the story of Sleepless Kao’s dreamy and imaginative universe.
Kao pursued further education after graduating from Setsu Mode Seminar, namely at BCIT (Vancouver), where she was trained in new media design and web development. Following this, Kao has moved into sharing her skills with others, teaching 16-19-year-old learners enrolled in the Electronic Arts Teen Animation Scholarship program at Arts Umbrella, a non-profit arts education centre for young people with programs in Art & Design, Theatre, and Dance at Lower Mainland, BC.
Throughout Kao’s journey, you can find her works exhibited all over the world, from Vancouver to Portland, and San Francisco to Tokyo.
