Standard Module Design
MUJI bases on Japanese building size units "saka(尺)" and "ken(間)" to setup a standard module for storage furniture and units, so that each storage unit could be stackable and replaceable with each other to bring an organised interior space. "Standard Module" is also applied to the design of other merchandise, allowing them to be neatly placed into various furniture and storage units, hence creating a comfortable living environment.
- ● "175 x 86cm" for Shelves
- The height of a 5-layer Steel Unit Shelf is 175cm, which is the same as the height of common Japanese doors, whereas the 86cm width is slightly narrower than half (91cm) of the Japanese building measurement unit "ken" (182cm). Having unified sizes with residential units, the shelf can fill up the entire wall, or separate interior space evenly.
- ● "37 x 26cm" for Storage Units
- The inner size per layer of a 5-layer Steel Unit Shelf is 80 x 35cm. By making storage units with the size of 37 x 26cm, each layer of shelf can accommodate 2 to 3 pieces of storage units perfectly.
