All of our clothes are made with organic cotton.

To Muji, cotton is one of the most valuable natural materials.

As the cultivation of cotton requires great amounts of effort and time, many pesticides and chemical fertilizers have been used in the past. We want to practice our craftsmanship while being taking into account the effect on the people cultivating cotton and the burden on the environment.

Thus, for more than 20 years, Muji has been continuously working to increase the percentage of organic cotton cultivated in soil that has not been treated with pesticides or chemical fertilizers for at least three years, and since 2018, only organic cotton has been used as cotton material in apparel.

For MUJI, cotton is one of our most important raw materials. For this reason, we believe that it is impossible to achieve a comfortable life if we fail to use materials that are good enough for both users and producers, and thus, we have insisted on using organic cotton for our products.

Organic cotton refers to cotton grown in soil that has remained free from the use of pesticides and fertilizers for more than 3 years. Cotton farming accounts for about a quarter of the total agricultural use of pesticides worldwide. In other words, it takes a lot of time and effort to grow cotton. Moreover, a significant amount of pesticide persists in the soil, and it is not hard to imagine the tremendous negative impacts it can have on producers, locals living in the vicinity, as well as biological life.

MUJI creates products with the aim of bringing its users the reality of a "comfortable life." If we put the people responsible for producing the raw materials of our products at risk, we would have failed to live up to our vision of creating a "comfortable life." As such, we are working to increase the percentage of organic cotton that is used in the manufacturing of our cotton products.

Since 2014, our product developers have visited production areas around the world, and have experienced sowing and harvesting processes across different seasons. We want to learn more about the production process of organic cotton, acquaint ourselves with how important these raw materials are, and maintain connections with the local producers as we continue to make our products. As we were finally able to use organic cotton for all our cotton garments as of 2018, the label "organic cotton" was removed from the names of our products in 2019.

MUJI uses only organic cotton for our cotton products, and we will continue to create simple items with both users and producers in mind.

India cotton T-shirts

A thick and sturdy T-shirt that has been well-knitted with threads two times the thickness of those used for the "classic T-shirt." It is a T-shirt with a surface feels dry and is thick while wearable even in the height of summer. It is moderately elastic and not see-through so even wearing just this will allow the wearer to look put-together. There are two types for ladies, the classic form and one with a loose-fitting wide silhouette. The laundry tag, size tag, and so on have been collated and printed near the neck in one place to prevent disorder.
