Every day and every hour, we come in contact with almost
innumerable items. If we record what we need, use, wear
and dispose of in the course of a full day, it will make a
very long list…
Quoted from “So Shu Ji Nen,” a publication by MUJI.
MUJI offers more than 7,000 life tools and items, made up
of various materials.
For this exhibition, a research with 50 people was
conducted to study the average contacts within 24 hours
and recreated with MUJI’s merchandises and materials. It
represents our activities of studying a comfortable life in
the important three axes through observing, listening and
touching.
Besides, we interviewed people from various backgrounds
to produce a short film, through viewing of their life, the
things they see, listen or touch every day, the film aims to
understand the meaning of life via different contact points.
A comprehensive visual grasp on what to encounter in the course of 24 hours is presented. The materials contacted from dawn to night will give you good representation of how we live.
The sound of 24 hours quantified from the materials data, and
categorized every three hours, becomes a unique portrait of urban
denizens.
The textures felt on the fingertips are presented in the waveform of varied size of 24 hours on the monitors, giving shape to the sense that was invisible so far.
The sensors in the "HapLog" are installed onto the fingertip to detect the deformation of the skin, resulting from the contact with the material, and the processor calculates the force exerted to visualize the delicate tactile feeling. With the help of that invention, the textures or the sensation of the materials can be shared with others.
In everyday life, people come in contacts with many objects unconsciously through observation, listening and touching.
In Hong Kong, a city full of vitality, what are the things people contact in their life?
MUJI Hong Kong has collaborated with Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University, interviewed people from various backgrounds to produce a short film. Through understanding of the things they see, listen or touch in their every day life, the film aims to realize the meaning of life for people living in city.
